Last week we discussed the idea of "letting go." So many of us walk through life collecting thoughts and feelings that weigh us down. Without even realizing it, we let things like being embarrassed about a past failure, caring what other people think or experiencing guilt weigh heavily on our hearts and minds and keep us from becoming all of who we are.
I'm excited to announce that I'm launching a new interactive public art project called "Soar." The project helps people consider what might be holding them back and invites them to let that go to become more free.
Soar will be a 20' long display at the lot next to Bean Creative (thank you Bean, for letting us use your lot for the project!) at 2213 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301 between June 1 - June 24, 2017.
As with other We Live Big projects, I will construct the framework and the art will be built through community involvement over the course of several weeks.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
- Recognize something in your life that has been weighing you down or holding you back from becoming all of who you’re meant to be. This can be as general or specific as you like.
- Select a rock that will represent your burden. Write what you want to let go of on the rock.
- Feel the weight of the rock. Carry it with you as long as it takes for you to recognize its weight.
- When you are ready to let go of this weight, place your rock in the sandbox at the base of the display. Feel the lightness that comes from letting go.
- Hang an origami bird on the display above to symbolize your freedom and potential to soar.
WHO IS IT FOR?
As with all #WeLiveBig projects, Soar is for everyone. The Courage Wall and UNITY projects spread virally and touched people from all around the globe.
While Soar is launching in the community of Del Ray in Alexandria, VA, our hope is that people from around the world feel inspired to bring the project to their own towns. Imagine the power of tens of thousands of people considering how they can let go of their burdens to become more free.
All of our projects are kid-friendly because we believe that if we can introduce these concepts to the next generation now, they can become better leaders as they step into adulthood.
DO YOU NEED MONEY?
Yes! We just launched a Go Fund Me Campaign to help pay for materials.
Watch our video to learn more then pull out your pocketbooks and give whatever you can. Community funding for projects like these allows everyone to invest in human flourishing
Announcing We Live Big Wednesdays!
I believe we can all live bigger, bolder, more authentic lives. To live big, we need to exercise our courage muscles. Remember, it's not whether we experience fear, it's how we interact with that fear that determines our success.
To help us all exercise our courage muscles, I've launched "We Live Big Wednesdays," a weekly challenge on social media. For our first challenge, we invited people to sing in public. It was a fun way to get the ball rolling. Last week, we encouraged people to profess their love. Each week I've received feedback about how thrilling it is to overcome the fears that pop up when we put ourselves out there.
If you want to get better at facing your fears, join me on We Live Big's Facebook page every Wednesday morning at 9am as I share the next challenge on Facebook Live. Over the course of the week, complete the challenge, capture it with a photo or video and share it to @welivebig on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Tag it #welivebigwednesdays and make sure it's a public post to become a part of this community project to practice living with courage!
