“If you want to change, you need to change,” said one of my colleagues in my coaching cohort. Everyone laughed, but it hit me like a ton of bricks.
Most of us want some sort of change in our lives. We want to be more accomplished at work…we want to be better parents…we want to travel more…we want to earn more money. We want, we want, we want, but we don’t get. So what’s going wrong?
I love the questions:
- Which behaviors are you willing to change to achieve your goal?
- How do you need to change how you think about that issue to change the outcome?
- What feelings will you need to shift in order to overcome what has been stopping you in the past?”
The more I talk with people about what they want to change, the more it becomes evident that most of us don’t even realize that we need to make real changes in what we do, how we think and how we feel.
If you’re committed to doing something you’ve never done before, you’ve got to make a shift from what you’ve always done. Now I know change can be a scary thing…so if you want to give it a try, start with a baby step. Think of just one thing you can change that will help you reach your goals. Then do it!
